Don’t Keep Mum

One fateful Wednesday, during my undergraduate days, I  had a scary encounter with three students. Back then I was forming the habit of going from room to room in my hostel to talk about Jesus and God’s love for mankind. The first room I stepped into that day had three bearded, Muslim fanatics as occupants.

Instinctively, I wanted to mutter an excuse and retrace my steps. To my surprise and dismay I found myself slipping out of my leather slippers and stepping farther into the room. Numbed by fear, with a heart pumping at full capacity, and an unusually feeble voice I shared my faith and gave them an opportunity to receive Jesus as Saviour and Lord. This didn’t happen without a hostile challenge directed to me and my message.

There are other times where I chickened out or kept mum. Opportunities lost.

As Christians talking about God and living out our faith is getting less popular, and increasingly riskier in some cases, than it used to be. Though people who have zero tolerance for our message abound,

About our faith we must talk,
Without fear so as not to balk.
God expects us to always utter
‘Jesus love s you’, and not stutter.
Evangelism we’ve been called to,
Discipleship is our task to do.
You can – He’s working it in you,
Slowly but surely – His promises are true.
The blows may come round after round,
It’ll only culminate into crown after crown.
For our ‘light and momentary troubles’
Is winning for us the glory of nobles.
So don’t keep mum,
When you can always win some.

God intends for the world to be “filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).

One of America’s most influential evangelicals, Albert Mohler said, ‘At the end of the day the biggest obstacle to evangelism is Christians who don’t share the gospel.’

I agree.

One practical thing you can do is now is PRAY.
Pray for our Muslim friends as they observe Ramadan (30 days of fasting and prayer). Click HERE to get a booklet of summarised prayer items for use during the remaining 28 days of Ramadan (The booklet is courtesy 30 Days Prayer.
